Peter Gould treated us to a superb recital today: one that certainly set the bar very high for recitals at Holy Trinity in 2022! His music programme was diverse and included music he has never played before: ‘Three Choral Preludes on Wie School Leuchte runs Der’ because, [he likes] ‘to challenge’ [himself]! The Bach was surprisingly soft and light, the Dubois memorable with its repeating motif – and the wonderful ‘star’ note played by Dorothy Gould; the final piece, Coronation Scot, was great fun and came with its own anecdote from Peter’s time at Derby Cathedral. The most powerful and dramatic piece was Fantasia and Fugue on B.A.C.H. by Franz Liszt; it was an absolute privilege to listen to and watch Peter play this incredibly challenging piece of music! He really deserved to be heard by many more people but those of us who were there were simply thrilled! We thanked Peter – and Dorothy – and very much hope he will return in the not-too-distant future!
